Abstract: The influence of KCl on the release of glutamic acid from culture human neuroblastoma cell line(SH-SY5Y)was observed by using HPLC. The results of the experiments showed that KCl(10~30 mmol/L)incresed the concentration of glutamic acid in the cell culture when calcium ion existed in the culture medium. When the concentration of KCl above 40 mmol/L, there was no increment of glutamic acid released from the cell. The increase of glutamic acid induced by KCl was not found when there was no calcium ion in the culture medium. The results indicate that calcium ion is an important facto in the release of glutamic acid induced by KCl in SH-SY5Y cell culture.
