Abstract: A 287 bp I/D polymorphism in intro 16 of the ACE gene was determined by polymerse chain reaction in a study of 44 patients with NIDDM, 31 patients with MI in NIDDM, and 132 healthy subjects without myocardial infarction and NIDDM. The result was that the frequencies of DD genetype among the NIDDM(0.14)was similar to that of the healthy control subjects(0.17). The freguencies of DD genetype were higher among the MI in NIDDM group(0.42)than among the healthy control subjects(0.17, P<0.05)and among the NIDDM group(0.14, P<0.05). It suggested that deletion polymorphism of the ACE gene may be a risk factor of MI in NIDDM in Chinese population.
