Abstract: To determine the value of endocervical cytology in detecting endometrial carcinoma, endocervical cells were assessed by Ori Endocervical Brush TM for 1 093 patients who accepted fractioned curettage.Cytodiagnostic results were compared with the histodiagnostic results, which were regarded as the golden standard. The achieving efficiency of endocervical brush smears and endocervical curettage's (ECCs) were 82.5% and 17.0% respectively.Of the 60 cases with endometrial carcinoma, 48 cases accepted staging operation, and 14 cases had cervical involvement. In judging the cervical involvement, the sensitivity and specificity of endocervical smears were 71.4% and 82.4%, respectively. While in ECCs, there were 50.0% and 79.4%, respectively. The cases reported as positive by endocervical cytology mostly have higher stage, higher grade and special histological type, which is useful in preoperative staging and deciding the type of operation.
