Abstract:

Objective To investigate the effects of hypoxia on polarity of hepatocytes cultured in vitro. Methods Sandwich-structural hepatocytes were used to study the effects of hypoxia on polarity of cultured hepatocytes. Expression of specific plasma protein, detensity of cytosolic Ca2+ and the morphology was observed before and after hypoxia. Results Both bile canaliculia-like structures and the distribution of specific plasma membrane protein were damaged in hypoxia treated hepatocytes. The detensity of cytosolic Ca2+ was increased in hypoxic hepatocytes. Conclusion Hypoxia induces significant disturbance of cell polarization in hepatocytes.
