Analysis of Antibiotic Application in Surgical Patients in Beijing Friendship Hospital in 2000 and 2004

Abstract: Objective This study was performed to investigate the status and exiting problem of antibiotic use in surgical patients in Beijing Friendship Hospital and provide reference for safe,rational and effective in antibiotic use clinic.Methods The data of surgical patients(n=178) in 2000 and surgical patients(n=172) in 2004 were collected randomly and analyzed retrospec-tively.Results Of the selected patients in 2000 and 2004,100% were receiving antibiotics.The rate of rational antibiotic use was 65.7% and 46.5% respectively.The purpose of antibiotic use was for simple prophylaxis in 43.8% and 43.6%,for both treatment and prophylaxis in 56.2% and 56.4% respectively.The empiric use of antinations composed 100% and 98.3% respectively.In 56.5% and 44.4%,36.6% and 50.0%,6.9% and 4.4%,0 and 1.1% of the users,a single,two,three and four or more agents were used in combinations,respectively.Conclusion There is unrational antibiotic usage in clinical practice in our hospital,and the clinicians should pay attention to it.
