Abstract: Objective To investigate the relation ship between platelet counts and prognosis in patients with sepsis. Methods Parameters in 54 patients with sepsis were analyzed retrospectively,to show the effects of bacterial genus, platelet counts in first positive blood culture and APACHEⅡ scores on prognosis. The difference between Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative bacillus in patients sepsis were observed in terms of platelet counts,APACHEⅡ scores and prognosis. Results Platelet counts in first positive blood culture and APACHEⅡ scores were closely correlated with prognosis. The APACHEⅡ scores was significantly higher in patients with platelet counts<100×109/L(P<0.05).There was no difference in platelet counts,APACHEⅡ scores and prognosis between Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative bacillus in patients with sepsis. Conclusion Platelet counts in patients with sepsis are correlated APACHEⅡ scores and prognosis, platelet counts are good indicators of prognosis and severity in patients with sepsis.
