In the presence of reductants, the interaction between the chromophore of neocarzinostatin (NCS) and the nucleic acids yielded an adduct, In this study, we compared the effects of various reductants on the amount of adduct produced. Results supported the conclusion that in the presence of DTT, the amount of adduct produced was greatly increased, and the quality of adduct was steady. This stable adduct could be used in the investigation of its structure, thus helping to understand the mechanism of NCS to act as an anticancerous drug.

In anesthetized rabbits arrhythmia (mainly ectopic beats) and striking elevation of arterial blood pressure could be elicited during and after stimulation of mamillary nucleus of the hypothalamus and its surrounding regions by monophasic square wave trains lasted 5-10 seconds (pulse duration: 0.5--1ms; frequency: 40-70 Hz; current intensity: 4-90μA). Stimulation of hypothalamus on rabbits by temporary occlusion of the carotid artery or neurectomy of the carotid sinus could elicit an increased response of arrhythmia.

The present study proved that Escherichia coli synthesized ademolybd-precursor of Formate dehychogenase (FDH) in culture media containing tungstate under anaerobic condition. The whole cell conld restore FDH activity when tungstate was removed and molybdate was added. But purified demolybdo-enzyme would not restore its activity under he same condition. The experiment provides a useful material for the study of metalion incorporateing into apoenzyme.

Upper arm circumference is an useful and convenient index for evaluating the nutritional status and growth of young children. We mersured upper arm circumference, weight and hight in 902 school-age children (462 males 440 females). They are living in Beijing. The range of age in this group was 7 to 12 years old. The upper arm circumferences of children in this age group ranged from 16cm to 20cm. Upper arm circumference grows gradually with increasing of age and there is a close correlation between upper arm circumference and weight. The advantages of using the uppr arm circumference measurement is that it is time-saving and easy to perform, requires no expensive or sophisticated equipment.

Acute experimental hepatitis induced by carbon. tetrachloride (CCl4) is one of the classical animal models used in laboratory. The present paper showed that low and moderate doses of cantharidin prevented effectively the hepatic damage and increased in serum level of GPT in these models. Whereas extra-high doses of cantharidin might also lead to hepatic damage and increase in GPT level, but such changes were much less milder than that induced by CCl4.

Data concerning pulmonary embolism from 382 autopsies were reported in this paper. The data concered 194 males and 188 females. The age at death was from 14 years to 94 years and the average age of death was 62.4 years. The primary underlying disease processes were as follows: Malignant tumor 39.8% Pulmonary artery 14.1% arteriosclerosis Deep vein thrombosis 11.5% Myocardial infaction 11.0% Chronic pulmonary 9.9% heart disease Most of the pulmonary emboli (54 1%) were associated with heart, lung and blood vessel diseases and the most frequ- ent cause of the pulmonary embolus was thromboembolism. of the 382 cases, 237 cases (62.1%) had pulmonary infarction. The antemortem diagnosis of pulmonary embolism was made in 114 cases (29.8%). 32 cases (8.4%) had sudden death as a result of their pulmonary embolus. In the present paper the incidence, pathogenesis, pathologic changes and clinical manife- stations of pulmonary embolism were discussed.

In this article, an analysis of the PRA (plasma renin activity) and ATⅡ (angio- tensin Ⅱ) levels of blood samples from peripheral vein, bilateral renal veins and inferior caval vein and renin related factors in 26 cases of renovascular hype- rtension (RVH) was performed. The conclusions were as follow: (1) The positive rate of renal vein renin ratio (RVRR) was 45.5--53.8% in the unilateral RVH patients. (2) There was no difference in short- term curative effect between the patients with unilateral RVH who have positive and negative diagnostic ratios. (3) The renin activity of blood samples from the renal vein of the affected side can be either high, normal or low. (4) The etiology of some patients with normal and low renin RVH was possibly renal parenchymal involvement, PGE or kinin deficiency. (5) We believe that multiple determina- tions and multiple index observations of RAAS, KKS and PGS can help to clarify the pathogenesis and enhance the positive diagnostic rate of RVH and to pinpoint the indications for surgery.

Four patients with hypertensive encephalopathy, including two autopsies, were reported. From the clinical. and CT scanning data, it was suggested that brain edema might be an important factor in the pathogenesis of hypertensive encephalopathy. Pathological findings revealed marked congestion, serous leakage and diffuse petechial or punctate hemorrhages in various regions of the brain which was in favour of the above suggestions. According to such observations and also referring to Auer's experiments, the authors considered that cerebral vasodilatation (but not vasoconstriction) and secondary brain edema might be the pathogenetic basis for to produce hypertensive encephalopathy.

An analysis of 173 cases of cerebral cysticercosis treated with albendazole was reported. The range of age in this group was 12 to 65 (137 males, 36 females). The effect was definite. Following-up observation of all the patients over a period of 6 months yielded, an effective rate of 97.7%. The side effects with albendazole were much milder. But in a few cases, intracranial hypertension was observed, so preventive measures and appropriate treatment showed be adopted.

We analysed 39 known type antigens that had been tested upon in the random population of the Han Nationality in Beijing area, among them A locus 12, B locus 23, C locus had 4, and 8 unknown type designated region of the antigen and estabilished a tentative model of phenotype frequencies, gene frequencies, hapltype frepuencies and linkage disequilibrium paramater of the common type antigens of the Han Nationality in Beijing area, Also the coincidance rate Hardy-weinberg balance had been carried out.
