Changes of duration of untreated psychosis and its influential factors in patients with first-episode schizophrenia

Abstract: Objective To explore the trends of change and related factors in duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) at first-episode of schizophrenia. Methods Retrospective investigation was employed on relieved patients with first-episode of schizophrenia in Beijing Anding Hospital, Capital Medical University from different years (1994, 2004 and 2014) to explore DUP changes.Results Statistical analyses showed that DUP in patients with first-episode of schizophrenia in 2014 was significantly lower than that in 1994 and 2004. However, there was no significant difference between the latter two groups. Besides, there was a negative correlation between DUP and reduced score rate of Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) in 2014. Conclusion The DUP was significantly shortened in patients with schizophrenia, in which the proportion of students, unmarried people and well educated population increased, showing the development and progress of mental health system in our country.
