Abstract: Castor oil emulsion was compared with oxytocin infusion for induction of labor in term pregnancies.A total of 74 pregnant women were randomly allocated to receive castor oil emulsion(n=37)or oxytocin infusion(n=37).Success rate was not significantly different in castor oil emulsion group(30/37,81.1%)compared with oxytocin infusion group(24/37,64.9%).The induction-contraction and induction-delivery intervals were calculated as 27.0 and 35.9h in castor oil emulsion group,2.5 and 15.0h in oxytocin group. The conclu-sion was castor oil emulsion and oxytocin infusion were similar in their efficacy and safety. Castor oil emulsion need longer time to go into effect than oxytocin, but this effect was en-during.
