Immunohistochemical Study of PCNA in Cerebral Astrocytomas

Abstract

Abstract: Immunohistochemical study of PCNA in 53 cases of astrocytomas was reported. According to the criterion of Daumas-Duport's histological grading,the above mentioned astrocytomas included 14 cases of grade Ⅱ,14 cases of grade Ⅲ and 25 cases of grade Ⅳ. The mean values of immunohistochemical labeling indices (LI) of PCNA are 2.99%,9.73%and 38.06% respectively. The result showed that there existed a positive relation between the histological grading of astrocytomas and the immunohistochemical LIof PCNA,and LIof PCNAin the proliferating areas of small cell type were higher than that of proliferating areas of multiform cell type. PCNA can reflect the proliferating ratio of tumors. We can apply this work for judging the malignancy of astrocytomas and providing a valuable index for clinical prognosis of patients.
