Abstract: The healthy status of 623 elderly subjects aged 60 years and above was examined including height, weight, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar(BS),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),electrocardiogram and echocardiogram. The subjects were divided into four subgroups according to their body mass index(BMI): thin (BMIP all<0.05). There were positive correlations among TC,TGand weight,BMI,systolic blood pressure and BS(P <0.05 and 0.001 respectively); negative correlation between TCand diastolic blood pressure(P <0.01). Stepwise multivariate regression analysis disclosed that TC,TG,BSand DBPall alone and jointly positively correlated with BMIexcept SBP. It was suggested that obesity is one of the important risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
