Abstract: Plasma estradiol(E2)and malondialdehyde(MDA)were examined in women, and the results demonstrated that E2 level decreased and MDA content increased in menopausal wo-men,showing a negative correlalivity between E2 and MDA.In animal experiment we found that E2 was decreased while MDA in liver and uterine homogenates was increased,adminis-tration of estrogen reversed the change of MDA in liver and uterus, and the range of change of MDA in uterus with E2 was more significant than that in liver. The results suggest that E2 may possess the antioxidative effect. Therefore, the manifestations of senescence are probably related with the increase of MDA resulting from the decrease of E2 level.

Key words: estrogen, malondialdehyde(MDA), lipid peroxidation
