Abstract: Objective To investigate the influence of cigarette smoke and ginkgo to the expression of transform growth factor-β1 in asthmatic rats. Methods 30 Wistar rats were divided into an asthmatic+CS group(group A),an asthmatic group(group B),an asthmatic+CS+ginkgo group(group C),an asthmatic+ginkgo group(group D) and a control group(group E).The expression of TGF-β1 of bronchial tissue in each group was observed by Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR),respectively.Results The expression of TGF-β1 from group A and B were significantly increased compared with those of group C,D and E correspondingly and respectively(P<0.01).The expression of TGF-β1 from group D was not increased compared with those of group E(P>0.05).Conclusion CSE can increase the expression of TGF-β1 of bronchial tissue whereas ginkgo can decrease the expression of TGF-β1 of bronchial tissue in asthmatic rats.
