Abstract: Objective This article focuses on the possible correlation of the clinical parameters(such as age, gender, neckcircumference) with the severity of Obstructive sleep apnea /hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods 111 patients presenting withclinical symptoms of OSAHS were asked to attend the study. All patients underwent at least a polysomnography and the physical examination, which included neck circumference, and body mass index(BMI).The correlation between age, neck circumference,BMI,SaO2 and respiratory disturbance index(RDI) were analyzed. Results A statistically significant correlation between neck circumference, the lowest SaO2,the Epworth sleepiness scales and BMI with the RDI was detected. The difference of neck circumference,ESS,SaO2,and the BMI was significant between the different serious patients. No correlation was found between age and RDI.Our data suggests that when BMI≥28,or neck circumference≥42 cm,the possibility of OSAHS is high. Conclusion BMI,ESS,SaO2 and neck circumference are rapid, simple and reliable method on assessing the serous of OSAHS.
