Abstract: Objective This article focuses on the possible correlation of the clinical parameters(such as age,gender,neckcircumference) with the severity of Obstructive sleep apnea /hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods 111 patients presenting withclinical symptoms of OSAHS were asked to attend the study.All patients underwent at least a polysomnography and the physical examination,which included neck circumference,and body mass index(BMI).The correlation between age,neck circumference,BMI,SaO₂ and respiratory disturbance index(RDI) were analyzed.Results A statistically significant correlation between neck circumference,the lowest SaO₂,the Epworth sleepiness scales and BMI with the RDI was detected.The difference of neck circumference,ESS,SaO₂,and the BMI was significant between the different serious patients.No correlation was found between age and RDI.Our data suggests that when BMI≥28,or neck circumference≥42 cm,the possibility of OSAHS is high.Conclusion BMI,ESS,SaO₂ and neck circumference are rapid,simple and reliable method on assessing the serous of OSAHS.
