Male-female Differences of the Relationship between Obesity and Lipids in the Eldly

Abstract: The healthy status of 976 elderly subjects aged 60~93 years was examined including height, weight, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar (BS), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG).The prevalences of Coronary Heart disease, NIDDM, Hypertension and Hyperlipideamia were higher in women than in men. The level of TC,TG, Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), BSwere higher in women than in men; Correlations between the lipids and body mass index (BMI) were stronger in men than in women for TC, TG. The result suggested that BMI could be an indepandent preditor of TC and TGin both aged men and women.
