The effect of tamoxifen(TAM) and interleukin-6(IL-6) on apoptosis in estrogen receptorpositive human breast cancer cell line(MCF-7) was studied. The sample cells stained by propidium iodide(PI) were detected, analyzed and fitted by FCM. The result showed that TAM and IL-6 could induce apoptosis of MCF-7 cells, the difference of apoptotic ratio between the control group and the treatment group was significant respectively. The cell apoptosis was enhanced when combining treatment with TAMand IL-6 was performed. The increase rate is much higher than that of either TAM or IL-6 alone, the differences were significant. The data indicated that the effect of TAM combined IL-6 is not an additive interraction, but possibly a synergistic interraction.

The effects of kentanserin on ischemiarepurfusion ventricular fibrillation and left ventricular pressure +dp/dt_max and -dp/d_max in rats were studied in order to clarify the relationship between the bolcker of 5-HT₂ receptor and myocardium ischemiarepurfusion injury. The results indicated that the kentanserin reduced the change of ischemic myocardium function and repurfusion ventricular fibrillation. It suggests that 5-HT₂ receptor is related to the change of ischemic myocardium function and repurfusion ventricular arrhthymia.

The fulllength HSV1-tk gene was inserted into retrovirus vector pN₂Aby DNA recombinant techniques. The plasmid pN₂A-HSV1-tk was transfected into ψ₂, PA317 packaging cell line by DNA-calcium phosphate coprecipitation. The G418 resistant clones were selected and their medium could infect NIH3T₃ successfully and their average titer was 6.2×10⁵CFU/mL. The highest one reached 1.5×10⁶CFU/mL. The producer cell line will be used in gene therapy.

Protective effects of baicalin on acute myocardial injury induced by isoprenaline were studied in rat. Animals were seperated into four groups of control、 myocardial ischemia model、 baicalin Ⅰ and baicalin Ⅱ. The effects of baicalin on electro cardiogram,serum CPK and myocardial malonialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were observed in rats. The results showed that baicalin inhibited the raising of ST period,depressed the release of CPK,reduced myocardial MDA production,protected myocardial SOD activity in the isoprenaline-induced damege of rat heart. The results suggested that baicalin possessed protective effects on ischemic myocardium and the action was considered to be related to the inhibition of lipid peroxidation.

To investigate the relation between bleeding after mifepristone induced abortion and placental remains in endometrium, histopathological and immunocytochemical methods were carried out to study the abstracted (20 patients) and aborted (10 patients) tissue. Histopathological study showed that there was decidua with necrotic cells in the abstracted tissue. A lot of white blood cells could be seen in decidua and endometrium. There were also glands and extracellular materials in different stages of development. Immunocytochemical study showed that factor Ⅷ antigen and PALP were positive in vascular endothelium. There were structurally and functionlly normal vassels in the remining decidua. This indicated that a lot of white blood cells in endometrium, the different development of endometrium, and the normal blood supply in the remining decidua which helps it to live could be the cause of bleeding after mifepristone induced abortion.

To assess the relationship of P53, nm23, CD44 and FN with lymph node metastasis of colorectal carcinoma, the expression of the four proteins was examined from 73 cases of colorectal carcinomas(37 cases with lymph node metastasis and 36 cases without metastasis) using immunohistochemical method. The low expression of nm23 and the positive expression of CD44 were significant difference between metastasis group and nonmetastasis(P<0.01). When using the combination of nm23 and CD44 to predict the lymph node metastasis, the specificity was 97.22%, and the sensitivity was 56.76%. An inverse correlation was observed between nm23 expression and lymph node metastasis. While CD44 expression showed a positive correlation. The combination of the two tests may be used as Author a objective parameter in predicting the lymph node metastasis of colorectal carcinoma.

By means of immunohistochemistry and TUNEL, the expression of four apoptosisrelated genes and apoptosis ability were examined in situ in human esophageal squamous cell carcinomas. Results: In 52 cases of tumor group, the positive rate (PR) of P53, Fas, Bcl-2 and Bax expression was 61.5%, 61.5%, 69.2% and 98.1%,respectively. The PR of apoptotic cell was 28.8%. In 18 cases of control group, the corresponding parameters were 16.7%, 100%, 38.9%, 100% and 61.1%, respectively. As compared with control group, the PR of P53, Bcl-2 expression were significantly higher in tumor group (P<0.01 and P<0.05), with the significantly decreased PR of Fas expression and apoptotic cell (P<0.01 and P<0.05). No correlation was showed between each protein expression of four and apoptosis detection. These findings implicate that, during the course of carcinogenesis in esophageal squamous cell carcinomas, the reduction of apoptosis ability is prominent, accompanied with abnormal expression of multiple apoptosisrelated genes

150 patients with pituitary adenoma (84 PRL secreting pituitary adenomas, 30 GH-secreting pituitary adenomas and 36 nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas) were treated by adnomectomy. The dynamic studies of serum PRL, GH, Cortisol, ACTH and thyroidal functions (T₃, T₄, TSH) were performed before and after microsurgery. PRL and GH levels decreased strikingly within one week after treatment and didnt change afterwards. It was concluded that PRLand GHlevels could be one of the major indicators to judge the effect of surgery. Serum T₃ also decreased significantly and the other pituitary hormones had no significant changes. It suggested that adenomectomy could cause the serum T₃ decreased.

To investigate the feasibility of transduction with the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase(HSV-tk) gene combined with ganciclovir(GCV) treatment, a recently proposed gene therapy strategy for restenosis after balloon angioplasty of the coronary arteries, a replicationdefective retrovirus containing the HSV-tk gene was constructed, and the inhibitory effect of the strategy on both vascular smooth muscle cell(VSMC) proliferation and neointima formation was observed in vitro and in a rat aorta model of restenosis, respectively. The result showed that the strategy inhibited cultured VSMCs proliferation, which was dosedependent on GCV. The bystander effect, which was previously demonstrated in malignancies, proved existent in cultured VSMC as well. In the rat aorta model of restenosis, the strategy was shown to reduce injuryinduced neointimal expansion. In contrast,neither transduction with the HSV-tk gene nor GCV treatment independently produced the antiproliferative effect both in vitro and in vi sis; gene therapy The Second Affiliated Hospital, Hebei Medical Universityvo. The data suggests the potential utility of this gene therapy strategy for human restenosis after the balloon angioplasty.

In order to investigate the long-term curative effect of lansoprazole with other two antibiotics and bismuthi subcitras colloidal(De-Nol) respectively on duodenal ulcer. 65 DU patients with helicobacter pylori infection (urease test and histology for HP) were randomly divided into two groups. All of the patients were reexamined with gastroscopy and ¹³C-UBT in the 1th, 6th and 12th month after the therapeutic course. The eradication of HP was higher in lansoprazole with other two antibiotics than that of De-Nol, and the recurrence rates was very low.

To study and compare the effect of homemade recombinant human erythropoietin(rHuEPO) with that of imported rHuEPOon patients with anemia in chronic renal failure(CRF) undergoing longterm maintenance hemodialysis. Sixty patients with anemia in CRF undergoing longterm hemodialysis in our hospital were divided into two groups at random. The two groups were treated with homemade and imported rHuEPO respectively. The rate of retculocyte of the patients in both groups increased significantly after a week. HCTreached above thirty percent within twelve weeks and the quality of living was also improved after treatment. There are some side effects such as hypertension, headache, hyperkalemia et al in both group. Either homemade or imported rHuEPO could improve the anemia in CRF safely and effectively. There is no significant difference in the effect of treatment between the two groups.

71 cases of nosocomialacquired Legionella pneumonia(NALP) and communityacquired Legionella pneumonia (CALP) were analyzed to improve the knowledge about them. The result showed that NALP and CALP were both frequent in male aged over 50, the clinical manifestation and chest radiographic finding were similar, the most frequent complication in both groups was respiratory failure. There were significant difference in risk factor, Legionella tape, mortality rate between NALP and CALP. Risk factors and mortality rate were higher in NALPgroup than in CALP. Legionella pneumophila in NALP is often LP₁、LP₆ and in CALPis LP₁₂.

The healthy status of 976 elderly subjects aged 60～93 years was examined including height, weight, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar (BS), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG).The prevalences of Coronary Heart disease, NIDDM, Hypertension and Hyperlipideamia were higher in women than in men. The level of TC,TG, Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), BSwere higher in women than in men; Correlations between the lipids and body mass index (BMI) were stronger in men than in women for TC, TG. The result suggested that BMI could be an indepandent preditor of TC and TGin both aged men and women.

In order to study the clinical diagnostic value of CSF oligoclonal bands in children with viral encephalitis, CSF of 42 children with viral encephalitis were analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and oligoclonal bands were observed. The standard of criticism was the number of γ-globulin oligoclonal bands. 32 out of 42 samples were positive (76.19% positivity), the rest were negative (23.81% negativity). The result showed that CSF oligoclonal bands were of clinical diagnostic value in children with viral encephalitis.

To evaluate the forward therapeutic effect of chemonucleolysis using collagenase for the treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion, a follow up survey of 32 cases was made. All the patients were hospitalized and treated with this method. Of the cases, 15 were treated with :“intradisc injection method”, i. e. the injection with 400～600 U of the enzyme was given into the intervertebral disc and 17 with extradisc injection method, i. e. the injection with 600～1200 U of the enzyme was given into the extradural space. Results: 17 showed excellent results, 2 good, 6 fair and 7 poor. Totally, the injection treatment of collagenase gave an excellent and good rate of 59.4%, and an effective rate of 78.1%. The surgical exploration rate was 12.5%.

One thousand patients, divided randomly into A (epidural ice hypertonic saline 10 mL) and B (ice hypertonic saline 10 mLand fentanyl 0.05 mg) groups. The effect and lasting time were observed. There existed great difference between the two groups in analgesic effect (P<0.01) and no difference in analgesic lasting time (P>0.05). Epidural ice hypertonic saline can attenuate postoperative pain, has a longlasting analgesic effect, reduce the use of postoperative opioid drugs and has no side effects. The effect of saline injection combined with small dose of fentanyl(0.05 mg) is even better without any side effect.

A 5-year Follow-up Evaluation of Onlay Restoration on Incompletely Fractured Tooth

Twenty two incompletely fractured teeth from 21 patients were restored by chrome cobalt alloy onlays, all of patients attended the followup study within 5 years. 16 onlays in 15 cases had good performance. 5 onlays, those were refixed timely after they had lost, still worked well. One case was extracted for “apicitis”. The clinical results showed that onlay restoration was the effective way for protecting incompletely farctured tooth, meanwhile, it is very important to prevent tooth from secondary caries, and onlay from coming out by means of accomplished preparation, accurate adjustment and regular reexamine.
