BGC823 human stomach cancer cells were cultured for the identification of photodynamic effects of Cortex phellodendri with illumination of 480 nm and 650 nm wave length. In the test groups with illumination, the herb extract diminished cell growth curve and the metabolism of 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazo1-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT). Futhermore, the significant decrease of the acid phosphatase (
P
<0.01) and the incorporation of
3
H-TdR into cells (
P
<0.01) were demonstrated in the test groups. The progression of cancer cell cycle was postponed in S-phase(
P

The cutaneous electrodes, gastric electrodes and strain gauges were used to record the cutaneous gastroelectric activity, gastroelectric smooth muscle slow wave and gastric circle muscle motility in Wistar rats of the control group and the acute stress group through computer, respectively. The data were delt with by time-frequency analysis, and statistics analysis. The differences of the two groups suggested that: ①Cutaneous electrogastrography could reflect the gastric activities, reveal gastric physiological and pathological laws, be applied in clinic as an objective standard to diagnose gastric diseases and evaluate the therapeutic effect to a certain degree. ② Cutaneous electrogastrography reflected not only the electric activities of gastric smooth muscle, but also some information about gastric circle muscle motility.

In order to learn the immune modulating function of the culture Cordyceps sinensis nutritional liquid, mice were fed with the culture Cordyceps sinensis nutritional liquid. Specific humoral immunity and cellular immunity functional indexes were selected to study. After the mice were fed with the culture Cordyceps sinensis nutritional liquid for 20 days, the splenic IgMPFC significantly increased as well as the titre of serume antibody and the percentage of T-lymphocyte in medium and low dose groups. All differences of delayed hypersensitivity between the treated the group and control group were no significance. The experiment suggested that the culture Cordyceps sinensis nutritional liquid had great effect on increasing mice′s humoral immunity and the positive percentage of T-lymphocyte.

Investigation was carried out on the effects of stem cell factor (SCF) in combination with interleukin-3(IL-3) on expansion of mice 5FU treated 3 days′ bone marrow cells(d3-5FU-BMC )in vitro using the method of colony culture and hematopoietic recovery in lethally irradiated mice transplanted with the expanded cells .The result demonstrated that the number of granulocyte-macrophage colony forming units(GM-CFU) and high proliferative potential colony forming units(HHP-CFU) increased (24.2±6.1) fold and (1.5±0.3) fold(
P
<0.05) respectively compared with the control group when SCF was used alone. When SCF combined with IL-3,the number of GM-CFU and HHP-CFU was (30.5±9.5) (P>0.05 compared with SCF alone)and (13.6±4.5) times of that of the control group(
P
<0.05 compared with SCF alone). The result of mice bone marrow cells transplantation experiment demonstrated that the number of recipients’ peripheral blood cells which received lethally irradiation transplanted with expanded d3-5FU-BMC with SCF,SCF+IL-3 recovered earlier by 1-5 days than the control group. Not only the number of the peripheral blood cells of SCF+IL-3 group recovered the earliest, but also the number of transplanted cells were reduced more than 10 folds. The result suggested that SCF had an effect on expansion of mice bone marrow cells in vitro. There was synergistic effect between SCF and IL-3.The expanded bone marrow cells could accelerate early hematopoietic reconstitution and reduce the number of transplanted cells.

Angiotensin Ⅰ converting enzyme (ACE) genotypes of 274 cases with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus without nephropathy (NIDDM), 102 with diabetic nephropathy complicated with renal insufficiency (RI) and 124 diabetic nephropathy without renal insufficiency (NRI), and 242 controls were determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the insertion/deletion polymorphism of ACE gene. Serum ACE levels were measured with ultraviolet photometry as well. The increased frequencies of D allele (0.52) and DD genotype (0.30) were observed in 102 subjects with RI compared with 242 control subjects (0.38 and 0.16 respectively,
P
<0.05 and
P
<0.001). The odds ratio associated with DD/II genotype was 2.91 (95% CI 1.52~5.58,
P
<0.01) for RI. Individuals with DD genotype had the highest serum ACE in all groups, and with II genotype the lowest levels. Patients with diabetic nephropathy and RI had higher serum ACE levels compared with controls (
P
<0.001). There was no difference in allele distribution between 274 NIDDM patients, 124 patients with NRI and the controls. ACE gene polymorphism is associated with serum ACE levels (
r
=0.65,
P
<0.01). This result suggested that the raised serum ACE concentration may play a role in the initiation and development of diabetic nephropathy; deletion polymorphism of the ACE gene might be an important risk factor of progression to end stage renal failure in Chinese type Ⅱ diabetes patients.

To evaluate the effectiveness of heparin coated stents on acute/subacute stent thrombosis and late in stent restenosis, the stents were implanted in 32 target lesions of 28 patients with coronary artery disease. The procedural success rate was 100% without death. No acute/subacute stent thrombosis were observed after stenting. 5 patients suffered from recurrent angina during the 6~24 months follow up, 3(17.9%) had in stent restenosis confirmed by coronay angiography. The result showed that heparin coated stent was effective in preventing acute/subacute stent thrombosis, but it could not reduce late in stent resenosis rates.

In order to learn the changes of bone metabolism in Graves disease early, urinary deoxypyridinoline(Dpd), serum bone GLA protein(BGP), alkaline phosphatase(AKP), serum calcium, phosphorus and bone mineral density of lumbar
2~4
, upper femur of 63 patients with Graves disease were tested. The result showed serum BGP and urinary Dpd were higher than the controls (
P
<0.05). BMD of lumbar 2~4 and the upper femur were lower than the controls (
P
<0.05) except those female patients younger than forty years old and those of WARD in female patients older than forty years old. The correlation analysis showed that serum BGP and urinary Dpd were positive correlated with FT
4
, but not with duration of illness, serum BGP was negative correlated with femur (NECK, WARD′s triangle) (
P
<0.05). The results suggested that the test of BMD, urinary Dpd and serum BGP could detect the abnormal changes of bone metabolism in Graves disease, these tests were more specific and sensitive than those traditional methods.

To analyze the relationship between acute cerebrovascular diseases with secondary coronary heart diseases, 116 cases of brain-heart syndrome (BHS) and 119 cases of non-brain-heart syndrome (NBHS) were analyzed contrastively. The result showed that BHS was found more commonly in the old men. About 68.6% of patients were with an average age older than 70 years old. The occurrence of BHS were associated with stroke type, lesion location and the severity of disease . In these BHS patients, brain hemorrhage (67.37%) was found more commonly than brain embolism (25.86%). Intraventricular hemorrhage or brainstem press always indicated a high BHS occurrence accompanied with a bad prognosis and high mortality. The main cause of death is pump failure. Some key points for treatment are earlier diagnosis, release from high ICP, ECG monitoring, prevention from pump failure and timely adjustment of arrhythmia.

One hundred and sixteen cases with fractures of extremities were treated with external fixation using modular external fixators . The rate of open fracture is 55%. The duration of follow up was from 3 months to 5 years. The rate of fracture healing was 93%. Modular external fixators provided good fixation for treating long bone shaft fractures of extremities, especially open or infected fractures with severe soft tissues injuries. With the advantages of secure fixation, high rate of fracture healing, allowing early mobilization at the joints around fracture site, being easy to operate and low cost, modular external fixators were especially suitable for county hospitals where the instruments and surgical technique were relatively undeveloped.

products and the failure of chemotherapy for bladder cancer, the 72 cases of bladder cancer were studied with the immunohistochemical method. The restults suggested that the positive rate and the strong positive rate of the MDR
1
products in the cases, in which the chemotherapy with mitomycin pouring into the bladdler post-operation was fail, were higher than those in the initial stage of bladder cancer. The positive and strong positive expressions of MDR
