Abstract: With immunohistochemistry, immunoelectronmicroscopy and high pressure liquid chro-matography-radio-immunoassay methods,We have studied the pericardium of humans and Wistar rats. The presence of angiotensin Ⅱ and atrial natriuretic factor like materials(ANF-LMs)was demonestrated in the pericardium.Gold particles were found in some granular ar-eas of the cytoplasm of mesothelial cells with antihuman-ANF.Mesothelial cells appeared the principal endocrinesecreting ones. There were Ang Ⅱ and three molecular forms of ANF in the pericardium. It was suggested that beyond the known functions, there were important endocrine functions related to pericardium.

Key words: local renin-angiotensin system, angiotensin Ⅱ, atrial natriuretic factor, pericardium, immunohistochemistry, immunoelectronmicroscopy
