The effect of fentanyl injected into rat paw on paw-pressure threshold was observed with a self-made and improved paw-pressure technique in the present paper. The results from the peripheral analgesic study show that local inj- ction of fentanyl into rat paw produces significant inhibition of inflamm- atory hyperalgesia but has no effect on normal paw. The results suggest that peripheral analgesic effect of fentanyl occurs under conditions of inflammation and accompanying pain but not on normal rats.

Renal glomerular lesions in experimental hepatic cirrhosis induced by carbon tetrachloride were studied, Hepatic cirrhosis was formed one month after administration of carbon tetrachloride, Glomerular capillary wall deposits of IgA (secondary IgA nephropathy) was demonstrated by PAP immuno-histochemical method. Large amounts of IgA deposits were clearly seen in 33~196 day rats. IgA deposits were not seen before the formation of hepatic cirrhosis and 238 day old rats.

The result of detection of effective antigens contained in cystic fluid of cysticercus cellulosae with SDS-PAGE, western blot and ELISA tech- niques, Eight antigen bands were recognized with antibodies in sera of cysticercosis patients, The molecular weights of the 8 bands were 255, 185, 105, 69, 64, 60, 48, and 41 kDa respectively. The 3rd to 7th bands appeared to be broader and more beeply stained than other bands, indica- ting that they may have stronger immune activities. If so, they may be better candidates for prepareing cysticereosis vaccines.

Standard microelectrode technique was used to investigate the effects of sodium ferulate on action potential of ventricular muscle of quinea-pig. After 30-min-perfusion with three concentrations of sodium ferulate (0.1mg/mL, 0.2mg/mL and 0.4mg/mL) seperatly, the altitude of action potential and the duration of 20% repolarization showed no change, but the duration of 90% repolarization and the effective refractary period increased significantly. Morevere, the duration of 50% repolarization of action poten- tial could increase markedly at the concentrations of 0.1mg/mL and 0.2mg/mL.

Using enzyme labeled immuno assay, the procedures of screening the clones of albumin cDNA from a library of human hepatic cells were reported. These selected clones were identified with immunological method and res- triction enzymes digestion, of the seven positive clones, the sum of three overlaps the whole length of coding region of albumin.

The difference in digestion and absorption of protein, carbohydrate and lipid was studied, between normal rats and "spleen deficiency"(脾虚)rats caused by rhubarb (大黄). It was shown that the speed of digestion and absorption of the three substances in "spleen deficiency" rats was much lower than that of normal rats. In another experiment, some of "spleen deficiency" rats were given with "Jian Pi Yi Qi decoction" (健脾益气汤) as a treated group, the others were given distilled water as control, The rate of recovery of the capability of digestion and absorption of carbohydrate in treated group was faster than those in control.

Curcumol is the antitumor constituent of the plant, Curcuma Wenyujin To study the effects of curcumol and sodium phosphorylcureumol (CP-Na) on the membrane of Ehrlich ascites tumor cells, fluoresent probe dis-C3-(5) and atomic absorption spectrum techniques were used respectively to measure the changes in membrane potentied and membrane permeability to potassium ions. The intensity of fluorescence increases after addition of curcumol and CP-Na to suspension of tumor cells. The intensity of fluorescence was calibrated by means of potassium diffusion potential induced by valinomycin. By these methods the change of membrane potential can be calculated, for curcumol and CP-Na mem- brane potential of tumor cells was deporlarigzed about 52mV a and 35mV. The intracellular potassium ion concentration of tumor cells decreases after adding the curcumol and CP-Na, and potassium ion coucentration Within the medium increases. The mechanisms of those changes mentioned above were cliscussea.

The cation-transport activity of the human erythrocyte sodium pump Was studied with 86rubidium uptake method. We chose the experimental optimum conditions and measured the activity of erythrocyte sodium pump in 70 normal individuals (0.449±0.059mmol/ (L·h).X±SD). The inhi- bitory activity of P. Palmatum on the human erythrocyte sodium pump in vitro was also observed, Our studies suggest that abnormal sodium pump activity may play a role in the pothophysiology of cellular thermogenesis.

17 cases with bradycardia were paced in right ventricle and cardiac output, cardiac index and malor pulmonary arterial pressure were investig- ated. It was found that the hemodynamic effect was satisfactory with the pacing being 80 per minute, and this approach proved useful for the selec- tion of optimal pacing frequeicies. We conclude that the slower the heart rate and the lower the position of heart block are, the worse will be the prognosis(p<0.05).

Fresh human endometrium in the follicular and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle and wall decidual tissues at 6-11 weeks of gestation were collected by suction curettage. Content of the different kindes of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides in the endometrial and decidual tissues were tested using HPLC technique and RIA, respectively. It was found that the contents of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides in the decidua were very abandant, and DA, DOPAC. β- EP and LH-RH of them in the decidua appeared significantly higher than those in the endometrium (P<0.05). The contents of DA and DOPAC in the decidua increased gradually with the prolongation of the gestation weeks (p<0.05). On the contrary,β-EP and LH-RH showed decrease (p<0.05). These preliminary results suggest that the decidua synthesizes not only β-EP, LH-RH, but also neurotransmitters.

206 cases of perinatal death from 1984 to 1987 were analysed. The perinatal mortality rate was 17.7%. Autopsy was performed for 168 cases and the antopsy rate Was 81.8%. The clinical diagnosis was found to coincide with autopsy findings in 90.7% of cases. The causes of death appeared to be hypoxia, malformatiou, respiratory diseases and intrauterine growth retardation. The perinatal death rate in breech delivery was 18 times than that in vertex delivery. It inicates that the correction of breech presentation in antenatal period is of importance. If more CS are adopted, less perinatal death will be observed for breech delivery. Among 30 cases of stillbirth, 10 cases were diagnosed as malformation, 50% of which being N.T.D. Based on our studies, we came to the coaelusion that an early N.T.D. perinatal diagnosis in second trimester of pregnancy is very important for the lowering of fetal death.
