Abstract: Objective To study the effect of modified Baoshenfang No.2 on diabetic nephropathy in rats. Methods The model of diabetic mellitus was established by intraperitoneal injection of sireptozotocin(STZ). Then, the levels of blood glucose and lipid as well as renal function(including serum creatinine, urine nitrogen, urine protein) were measured in each group of animals. At last, H-E staining was applied to observe changes in kidney morphology. Results Compared with the control group, intragastric administration of the modified Baoshenfang No.2 significantly lowered the blood glucose and lipid and improved the renal function. Also, the pathological changes of kidney were alleviated. Conclusion Modified Baoshenfang No.2 might serve as a potentially useful treatment for diabetic nephropathy in clinic by reducing hyperglycemia or hyperlipemia, and improving renal function.
