    The Anatomic Study of the Morphology of Parotid Gland and its Duct in Chinese

    According to the morphologic observation of parotid glands of 88 cadevers of adults.It's obvious that:①The parotid gland is of different shapes and sizes,including irregular triangularshape,irregular quadrilateral-shape,strawberry-shape,wing-shape and hoof-shape.②The parotid gland has many processes,such as duct process,temporal process,inferior process,processus mastoideus, pterygo-mandibular process, parapharyngeal process and tympano-mandibular process.The amount of processes and the degree of development are related to the shape of parotid gland.③The original site,length and superficial projection of parotid duct are related to the shape of parotid gland.The horizontal line from the lower brim of auricular lobule to the line which goes from mandibular angle to the peak point of zigomatic can be regarded as the superficial projection of parotid duct.④The accessory parotid gland occurs separately.Its duct joins in the parotid duct by acute angle.

    We have employed the technique of whole-mount cultured cell fixed with potassium permanganate to examine the ultrastructure of the endoplasmic reticulum(ER)in cells of different cell lines(Hela,LA795and 2BS).and revealed a continuous ER network consisting of interconnecting tubules extending throughout the cytoplasm.We have also examined the ultrastructure and threedimensional relationships of mitochondria.The cristae of mitochondria is clearly seen in Hela cells fixed with potassium permanganate for 7 min at room temperatrue. The results suggest that this method is very useful for direct examination of the ultrastructure and distribution of membrnae organelles.

    23 rabbites were wounded on the back.Each one had 3 wounds that were treated separately with chitin and Yunnan Baiyao.Microscopically,results showed woundtreated with chitin had more macrophages and myofibroblasts than those treated with Yunnan Baiyao and the empty control group Thus healing of wound was advanced and woundwas contracted.We sugest that myofibroblasts containing actin had the effect for wound contraction and the basal cells of squamous cell epithelium containing actin migrated toward the wound and finally covered the wound.

    15 male adult Wistar rats were divided into experimental splenic deficiency group(10 rats)and normal control group(5 rats).Both groups of rats were fed under same conditions. In the experimental group,after administration of thubarb for 9 days,typical splenic deficiency symptoms were inducecd.The tail portions of pancreas of both groups were taken at 10 th day,and treated routinely for paraffin sections.Sternberger's PAP method was used to demonstrate the A-cells(glucagon cells),B-cells(insulin cells)and D-cells(somatostatin cells)in order to investigate their changes.Based on the intensity and content of the immunoreactive substances in the cells.In comparison,we found that in the experimental group the secretion of insulin elevated(P<0.05)and the secretion of glucagon and somatostatin declined obviously(P<0.05).The significance of these changes were also descussed.

    The evidence of dwarfism-like manifestation of rat was found by administration of hypodermic MSG 0.4 g/kg to the new born one every other day within 10 days after birth.We observed the rat bone development on the 11th day(new born stage),52th day(puberty)and 100th day(adult).The result showed that the trunk Jength of long bones of upper limb and lower limb,the thickness of tibia epiphysis and its multiplication area revealed signeficantly the development delay in the experimental groups P<0.05 for puberty groups,P<0.01 for the adule groups.For the 11th day groups,the length of long bone was on difference,but the thickness of epiphysis multiplication area,which determined the bone growth rate,decreased obviously.We could not discover the difference on the histologicalstructure of epiphysis and the development course of bone between experimental group and control group.The weight of pituitary gland in the experimetal groups possess of 55.6%(11th day group),42.4 %(52th day group)and 47.7 %(100th day group)of control groups. The immunohistochemical result indicated the number of GH-secreting cell was decreased.Cell volume was smaller.The body length and weight of the rats experimental groups were below 2S of control group.According to our results,the MSG could induce the rat dwasfism with GH deficiency.

    Cysts of G. lamblia obtained and purified form a 6-year-old boy living in Fujian province south-easthern China,were inoculated orally into the suckling gerbils(Meriones unguiculatus).Trophozoites of this organism isolated aseptically from the upper parts of the intestines of the infected animals were seeded into modified TYI-S-33 medium and incubated at 37 ℃.72 h after the cultivation,the organisms grew luxuriantly and formed a monolayer on the inner surface of the culture tube.During the period of the subcultures,the cells still grew well.No baterial(s)and(or)other micrcoganism(s)were found by inoculating aliquots of the culture into beef broth for cultivation at 37℃ for 5 days.After the organisms were cryopreserved in liguid nitrogen for 5months,the viability of the thrawed organisms ranged from 70%～75%.The present strain of the axenic culture of G. lamblia was designated as FUJI/92/DPCIM/1.

    Methylene chloride extracts of particulates from LPG combustion appliance were studied in micronucleus test in mice.The test was carried out with Kunming mice treated with the extracts at 100,200 and 400 mg/kg(ip,twice).A significant dose-dependent increase in MNPCE was clearly observed in all dose groups compared to that of the control(P<0.01).The extracts also had a marked cytotoxic effect on bone marrow as indicated by a significant reduction in PCE/NCE ratio with the dose(P<0.05).Therefore,it was considered that the extracts might be clastogen or spindle poison that was mutagenic in vivo and might be potential carcinogenic.

    The female albino mice in the fertile period were used in this study. After being fed with chinese herbal medicine ovulatory decoction,they were coupled during the estrus.The animals were killed in the 8th day after fertilization.The uters were dissected and the blastocysts were counted.The number of blastocysts in those mice given a dose of medicine in correspondance with the dose for human being was significautly increased as compared with the control group(P<0.05).Increasing the dosage did not improve the effectiveness and medicine shoued no toxicity,even the dose was increased by 50 times.The results proved that this chinese herbal medicine is quite effective and safe for enhancemet of fertile function.

    We studied the effects of Mycobacterial polysaccharides(MPS)on the suppression function of cyclophosphamide to BALB/C mice bone marrow.The results showed that 1.0 mg/kg of MPS had enhance effects on the GM-CFU(control-1,316.5±34.6,MPS group,454.5±19.1 ,P<0.05;control-2,208.7±43.7,MPS group,437.8±54.1, P<0.02). However,in 0.15 mg/ kg and 1.0 mg/kg of MPS,the levels of GM-CSF activity in sera of mice raised obviously;0.15 mg/kg of MPS could stimulate mice to produce 500 U GM-CSF per 0.1 mL sera,1.0 mg/kg of MPS could make mice induce 850 U GM-CSF per 0.1 mL sera.Analysis indicated that the activity levels of the MPS was the same as Japanese Z-100,and the hemopoietic effects of MPS may be indirect by stimulating monocytes and T lymphacytes indirectly.

    The purpose of the present study is to observe the therapeutic effects of calcitonin generelated peptide on arrhythmias caused by ouabain or aconitine in rats.3 minutes afterthe appearance of arrhythmia induced by ouabain(11 mg/ kg,iv)or aconitine(60 μg/kg, iv),the animals were divided into two groups at random which were infused with normalsaline(as control)or CGRP(40 μg/kg),respectively.In ouabain model,only one survived,while the other five(83%)died.In CGRP group,survival rate is 100%(7/7).In aconitine model,only four survived(4/6),one animal returned to stable sinus rhythm, with mean persistent time of 2.17±4.84 min.In CGRP group,survival rate is 100 %(7/7),five returned to stable sinus rhythm with mean persistent time of 20.93±13.24 min ,compared with control group,P<0.05.The results show that,the therapeutic effects of CGRP on arrhythmias caused by ouabain or aconitine are obvious.

    Silver-binding nucleolar organizer regions(Ag-NORs)have been counted in section of routinely processed paraffinembedded tissue blocks.We have examined 55 benign and malignant lesions of larynx by this method.The Ag-NOR counts were 3.29±0.63(n=32)for carcinomas,2.11±0. 34(n=8)for atypical hyperplasia and 1.72 ±0.17(n=14)for papilloma.Carcinomas had significantly higher counts than the other two groups(P<0.01).Between atypical hyperplasia and papilloma groups,the difference of mean Ag-NOR numbers were significant(P<0.01).It may be that the numbers of Ag-NOR reflect cell biological activity or even neoplasia. This method could perhaps be used quantitatively or semiquantitatively to assist in the diagnosis of malignant and benign lesions of larynx or even precancerosis.

    We report that a follow-up study for 86 cases of young acute myocardial infarction(AMI)has been conducted for 25 years.The age ranged from 25～40 years with a mean of 38.2.There were 74 men and 12 women.Their prognosis of acute phase was very good and complication was low.Their survival rate of acute phase,5 years,10 years and 25 years were 95.3%,81.4%,74.4%,and 58.1% respectively.

    51 cases of repeated respiratory tract infection patient were treated with MPS.20 cases of normal children were selected as control group.T-cell subgroup(CD)in peripheral blood were examined for the children of 2 groups.The effects of MPS were evaluated on the patients'clinical changes and the results of CD change.The conclusion is as follows:①The levels of CD4 and CD4/CD8 in the patient group were lower than that of the normal children of control group before treatment(P<0.01),indicating that the function of cellular immunity in susceptible children in low. ②Reexamination of CD for 31 patients after treatment with MPS revealed that there is no significant difference for CD3,CD4,CD4/CD8 as compared with control group(P>0.05),indicating that MPS could improve the function for the cellular immunity of the patients. ③Clinically among 51 cases of patient,21 cases were very much improved,indicating MPS is significantly effective in the treatment of RRI and 28 cases were improved,indicating MPS is effective making a total effective rate 96% .

    In 93 cases with diabetes the blood sugar,blood and urine phosphorus were determined.The determination was also done in 50 normal subjects as control.The results showed that blood phosphorus content in diabetes was apparently lower than control group,whereas urine phosphorus was higher than control group.The difference between two groups was significant(P<0.01).In diabetes negative relevance was found between blood phosphorus and blood sugar.

    One hundred and sixteen pregnant women complicated severe pregnancy induced hypertension(PIH)were admitted in our hospital through Jan,1991 to Aug,1993.88 of patients had caesarean section,the rate was 76.52%(88/116).The first four indications were severe pregnancy induced hypertension, CDP,intrauterine fetal distress and prolonged labour in succession.The purperal morbidity was 15.9%(14/88).The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage was 8%(7/88)and two patients developed HELLP syndrom resulting in one maternal death.There were two cases of perinatal mortality associating with non-operation causes.In this paper, the causes,increasing tendency of caesarean section rate,also the indications of caesarean section in severe PIH were discussed.The conclusion is:appropriately choicing caesarean section indications may have some advantages in decrease maternal and perinatal mortality.
