Experiments were conducted on Kunming mice. Potassium cyanide(CN), lodo-acetic acid(IA), malonic acid(MA),and CN plus IA were used to block the respiratory chain, glycosis, tricarboxylic acid cycle(TAC)and respiratory chain plus glycosis, respectively. The animal's survival time following the four types of treatment was compared. The survival time of experimental group(A)which went through three times of exposure to hypoxia was 3.83(CN), 25.31(IA), 12.27(MA), and 1.83(IA MCN)min, respectively. The survival time of the control mice(B)which weren't exposured to hypoxia was 1.45(CN),6.57(IA), 9.07(MA),and 0.65(CN±IA)min, respectively. The survival time for normal and three exposure to hypoxia in another control group(C)which were injected with no drugs but normal saline(NS)was 13.28 and 40.53min,respectively. The survival time in group A and B was significantly shorter than that in group C, but the survival time in group A was all significantly longer than that in group B. These results suggest that the ability of respiratory chain, TAC,and glycosis can be increased by the procedure of repetitve exposure to acute hypoxia. In addition, there might be an adaptation to hypoxia at tissue level and independent of energy metabolism.

Experiments were conducted on Kunming mice. The contents of DA,NE, 5-HT and 5-HIAA in the brain was measured with fluoresent methods. Compared with the group A of blank control without exposure to hypoxia, group B of experimental control exposed to hypoxia only once, and group D of another experimental control fed for two days after acute and repeatitive exposure to hypoxia for 4 times, the content of DA and 5-HIAA significantly increased and that of NE significantly decreased in the experimental animals, group C, acutely and repeatedly exposed to hypoxia for 4 times; the content of 5-HT significantly increased in group C in comparision with group B; while the content of the four chemicals was close to each other among group A, B, and D. These results indicate that substance of monoamines in the brain may be involved in the development of tolerance to hypoxia in acute and repeated hypoxia exposed animals.

The effects of extracts from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba on the activity of murine lymphocytes and neutrophils were investigated by colorimetric 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-y)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT)assay and micromeasurement of myeloperoxidase(MPO). The results show that the activity of plastiosome dehydrogenase in lymphocytes(P<0.001)and the MPO release of neutrophils(P<0.01)were enhanced when the cells were pretreated with the extracts from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba. Together these findings indicate these extracts may strengthen the function of murine immunocytes.

Ethanol extract of the Sophora flavecens Ait was evaluated in vitro for antigiardia effect. The lethal concentration to 99% of the organism was 5g/L on the 5h after cultivated with the trophozoites of Giardia lamblia. The lethality rates were decreased with the decline of the drug concentrations when cultivated with the parasites at the same period. The half lethal concentration was 1.5g/L and the shortest time at this concentration was 3h. The control test showed that 93.8% Giardia trophozites was killed by albendazole when it' s concentration was at 0.2g/L. The present study may provide an experimental datum for the treatment of giardiasis.

The Lewis lung carcinoma was transplanted into subcutaneous tissues of the black BDF1 mouse. Twelve days later, the tumors were heated with WZJ-1 theraputic machine at 43 ℃ for 50min. Observations were made under light and electron microscope to find the morphological changes of the damaged tumor cells. At 17th day after transplantation, metastasis of tumor was observed. The result was as follows:local hyperthermia inhibited both the growth of the primary tumor and(P<0.05)metastasis significantly(P<0.01);local hyperthermia could rapidly and specifically damage the tumor cells; could rapidly increase the central temperature of the tumor and also reduce the pH value of the tumortissue.

The test used rats and polyacrylamie gel electrophoresis(PAGE)to analyze the LDH isoenzyme electrophoresis maps about the tissue specimen specificity and the changes in various age groups. The results showed that each tissue specimen had a characteristic LDH isoenzyme electrophoresis map. The characteristics reflected the difference of the regulation during and post transcription of A and B gene among different tissues. The results also showed that there were specified LDH isoenzyme electrophoresis maps in each development stage of each tissue. For example, in the tissue of skeletal muscle, the contents of five kinds of LDH isoenzyme were significantly different between the aged and infant rats. These changes of LDH isoenzyme may have a very important physiological significance during ontogenesis. It may cause changes in organ function.

Hearts from the rabbits in which left coronary artery had been occluded for 10, 15, 30,45, 60, 120 and 240min were examined. The control rabbits were studied, too. The results showed that evidence of damage to myocardial cells was present at 10min after occlution, and became progressively more severe with time. The ratio of mitochondrial fraction to cell volume(Vm/Vc)increased progressively after 30min of the onset of ischemia. It increased from 30 to 45 and 45 to 60min and the figure was 28% and 60% respectively. However, it increased slightly at 60 to 120min. Area of crista inner membrane per unit mitochondrial voluine(Smi+mc/Vm)was lower slightly within 30min of ischemia. At 30 to 45 and 45 to 60min the index decreased markedly and was 15% and 17%. It remained constant within 60 and 120 min. SDH was demonstrated histochemically by NBT technique and measured histophotometrically by image analysis instrument(IAI). Results showed that SDH activity was not decreased, but increased slightly within 30min of ischemia. The activity was lower significantly at 45,60, 120 and 240min after onset of ischemia and it was the lowerest value at 240 min of ischemia.

It was reported that there were rich fibrinolytic substances in the tissue of earthworm Eisenia foelide and this was also verified in our previous work after its purification and in vitro study of its fibrinolytic activities by various methods. So far,we have studied the fibrinolytic extracts of earthworm for several years, and we have established certain procedures of purification. In this article,we studied the pharmacological effects of this extract on the aggregation of platelets of animals. The extract showed prominent anti-platelet aggregation effect after its oral administration in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that this fibrinolytic extract has anti-coagulation effect. And it is potential to be studied further, and perhaps, it may be developed into a new kind of drug to treat and to prevent the thrombotic diseases.

In this experiment, lenses aged 50 days coming with congenital, selenium and galactal cataracts were used. After being processed with freezing-drying method, each cataractous lens was examined by the electron spin resonance to study radicals in the lens. It has been found that the intensity of radicals in congenital cataract, selenium cataract and galactal cataract was all lower than that of normal group. In congenital cataract lens, the intensity of radicals was lower than that of normal group, but higher than that of the selenium and galactal cataract. This result is also different with the results reported before. We suggest that the quality and quantity of radicals in lens change with the alternated ages.

Prolactin in serum was measured with radioimmunoassay. The serum was drawn separately from 124 women 24 hours after their labor. In the group of 64 cases of vaginal delivery, the average concentration of serum prolactin was 541.9±204.66 μg/L ; whereas it was 547.1±248.64 μg/L in the group of 64 cases of abdominal delivery. The result indicates that there is close relationship between the level of prolactin in serum and the pattern of delivery.
